Isaac Hayes Dies at 65

It might depend on how you old you are as to how you remember Isaac Hayes.

Older people may think abouit his music - the groundbreaking disco and rap and "Theme From Shaft." We teenagers know him as "Chef" from South Park.

Hayes died this morning at his home in Memphis after apparently collapsing while on a treadmill, The Associated Press reported. He was 65.

His career began in 1964, according to his bio, but he didn't begin singing until 1969. He was on South Park from 1997 to 2006.

Rev. Al Sharpton said he was "deeply saddened" by the loss of a true historic music figure."

"Isaac Hayes was the first African-American to win an Oscar for a music score but never lost sight of his commitment to his community and the betterment of mankind," Sharpton said in a statement. "He was more than an artist (,) he was a trailblazer. He was an innovator. He was a creative genius."

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have yet to comment.
