Morgan Freeman Seriously Injured in Crash

As much as Batman fans will want my head served on a shiny silver platter, something tells me The Dark Night is cursed.

The first signs of an omen appeared when Heath Ledger committed suicide in New York this January. Christian Bale then had the honors of being arrested in London a DAY after the movie premiered and now Morgan Freeman is recovering from a nasty car crash in Mississippi.

Who's next?

Freeman, 71, is expected to undergo surgery to repair a broken arm, elbow and shoulder injuries, The Associated Press said. He was earlier reported to be in serious condition at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he was airlifted after the accident.

"He says he'll be OK and is looking forward to a full recovery," Freeman's publicist, Donna Lee, told the AP.

Freeman was driving in a rural stretch of Tallahatchie County Sunday night when his vehicle left the roadway, went airbone and flipped several times before landing upright in a ditch. He had to be cut from the car, but was "lucid" and "conscious" the entire time, said Charleston Sun Sentinel editor Clay McPherrin.

"He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point," McPherrin, who was at the scene within minutes of the accident, continued.

Freeman was accompanied by Demaris Meyer of Memphis. No one is saying anything about her condition.

Bystanders gathered as emergency workers packaged Freeman for transport. One person tried to get a picture with their cameraphone.

"No, freebies, no freebies," Freeman joked.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to a factor. reported that Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Freeman's long acting career began in 1964, with an uncredited role in The Pawnbroker, according to IMDB. He has a role in five upcoming movies, including as Nelson Mandela in The Human Factor. His part as Eddie in 2004's Million Dollar Baby won him an Oscar and who else can brag about being God for Bruce and Evan Almighty?

The response to this news has been amazing. He merited a "Breaking News" banner on around 12:30 p.m. EST and was the top story for much of the afternoon. Everyone seemed to be concerned about his condition.

Get well soon, Morgan. Even God needs prayer sometimes.
